Checkdisk

I wouldn't run it on any schedule, but rather only if you have reason
to suspect a problem.

Yes. I run it within Windows (takes only a few seconds, is not in-depth)
once every week/ten days. I run it full, on reboot (much more thorough,
takes much longer) about once every six months - and don't really need
to, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Ken Blake is basically right - it's
a must only if you have reason to believe there might be a problem, such
as: You have programs and/or work open when there is a sudden power
outage and you "lose" all your work. When your system comes back up,
run Checkdisk, if only to find and eliminate the "junk" files the sudden
shutdown might have caused.
