checkdisk question

I ran checkdisk on my PC. The summary told me that some bad clusters have
been moved to the bad cluster file. This appears to have taken up a lot of
my memory on my hard drive. I used to have 80% free, now I only have 7%.

I don't have much free anymore and I don't have a lot on my PC to begin with
outside of a few applications and Microsoft Office. Is there a way to clear
out this bad cluster file and if so, how and where is it located?

Any advice for how I can free up some space on my hard drive? I have run
the disk cleanup and removed any programs that aren't being used. I only
have 7% free and the disk defragment says it needs 15% to run effectively.
Any advice? Thanks!

Sounds like it's time for a new PC. If money is tight, a new low-ender can
be had for under $300. For $500, you can get something pretty good. Remember
that hard drives don't have "memory," they have storage space. Anything in
memory goes bye-bye when you power down.

Bad clusters are areas of your hard drive that have physically failed. You
should do a backup and replace the drive as soon as possible. Note that it
may fail completely at any time.

Is that what you do?.. every time you have a problem, you go buy a new PC?..
that's the kind of advice I would expect to hear in a Yahoo chat room..
replies like yours should be kept in the chat rooms.. they have no place
here..

Do you have an opinion between an internal or external hard drive? Is one
better than the other? Thanks for your help! Lori

Unless you're talking about a secondary hard drive, you have to replace the
internal drive with an internal drive. Windows can't boot from an external
drive.
