Here is my info, links are like us, they die. If any of these links are
dead or are no longer freeware, at least you have the name of the
program which you put into a search engine like Google & maybe you can
let me know the latest info.
I am not recommending anything, my list gives you a starting point to
find something to suit your operating system ( most people do not even
mention it ) & skill level. What will work on my computer, may not be
happy on yours. What I can understand, re how to install & run, may not
apply to you.

InstallWatch
http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/installwatch.html
InstallWatch records modifications made to your PC during the
installation of software, hardware, or configuration changes. The
program takes a snapshot of your system before and after the software
installation and then compares the two, presenting you with a list of
changes that have taken place. The changes log can be exported to a
text file for later reference. You can customize the monitoring
configuration if needed. Any registry changes that were made by the
installation program can be exported to a file for save keeping.
InstallWatch is very well documented and includes detailed instructions
and tutorials. Windows: 98, Me, NT, 2000

Inctrl - An installation monitor
This tool, once installed, allows you to run an installation of any
program and create an html page with all of the files/registry entries
that were created/modified during the installation. The logs are great
for tracking down those pesky registry entries if the program stops
functioning correctly.
Platforms: Windows 9x, NT, 2000, Me or XP

UNDOReg
http://mrs_calabash.home.comcast.net/download/undoreg146.exe
When you install a new program, the installation utility adds new data
to your System Registry, often unremoved after the uninstallation. You
can have a record of exactly what the install program did using InCtrl
5, System Mechanic, Safe Installer or RegShot. UNDOReg analyzes the
report generated by any one of these utilities, and deletes referenced
Registry keys."

Total Uninstall can help you to monitor any changes that were made to
your system during installation of a new software product and allow you
to perform a complete uninstall without having to rely on the supplied
uninstall program (which may leave files or changes behind). To use it,
you simply launch the installation program from the Total Uninstall
interface and select the system areas to be monitored. The program will
then create a snapshot of your system before it installs the new
software and an additional snapshot after install completes. it then
compares the two snapshots and displays all changes n a nice, graphical
tree view, marking all values and/or files that have been added or
changed as well as some before/after details. Total Uninstall will save
these changes and if you decide to uninstall the application, it will
reverse all changes to the previous state.

But don't forget that to peruse the readme:
"If the monitored application is already uninstalled with its
uninstaller, you can remove the remaining garbage data from your
computer using the Total Uninstall wizard. In this case YOU MUST
uncheck the "Decrease shared dll's counter" from option dialog."

RegShot
http://regshot.ist.md/
RegShot is a small registry compare utility that allows you to quickly
take a snapshot of your registry and then compare it with a second one
- done after doing system changes or installing a new software product.
The changes report can be produced in text or HTML format and contains
a list of all modifications that have taken place between snapshot1 and
snapshot2.In addition, you can also specify folders (with sub filders)
to be scanned for changes as well. In version 1.60+ you can save your
whole registry in a *.hiv file for future use.
Note: Regshot is a FREEWARE!
