Every time I turn on my PC check disk wants to run.If I let it run it finds
thousands of unreadable segments. Then there is an error message saying
Unknown hard error c000021a. What does this mean and can I get back to just
booting up and going straight into XP?

Hello,

It looks like your hard disk (the "thing" that stores your documents and
data) is reaching its end of life.

I would advise you to backup your data and replace it before things get
worse.

To verify that it is your hard disk malfunctioning, you can try downloading
the test utility from the hard disk company's website, after making a
backup.

So you want to stop that error from appearing and go on your merry way? Does
the error not indicate to you that there might be a problem? Download and
run the drive mfg's diagnostic program and test the drive, it is likely bad.
