Check Boxes without Check Marks

When in windows explorer in the "View" drop down
under "Choose Details" I am unable to see what details
have been chosen in the dialog box as the check marks are
not visible.
I realize that the details that have been checked do show
up, but my problem is that the items do not show that
they are checked. This problem exist with any program
that requires check marks for example in the System
Configuration Utility I cannot tell what programs have
been loaded from the 'Start Up' or the 'Services' tabs as
no check marks appear there also.
Any suggestions as to a fix for this?
 
I'm having the same exact problem. I also posted at "Subject: Re: can't check option boxes".
