Check box on Forms toolbar

In Word 2003 when i insert a check box from the Forms toolbar into a document
and protect the document I can only put an X in the box. Is there any way
that I can put a "check" in the box instead of the X.

I don't know if there is "any" way but if there is it isn't simple. The name
"check box" is simply a misnomer - but I think MS simply had long ago
reserved the term "X-Box" :-)
