Charts changing

I have a problem with charts changing in my presentation. I have a
pivot table in excel that outputs a chart. I then copy that chart and
paste, not link, but paste into my presentation. Then i go back to the
pivot table to change some criteria and output a new chart. However,
when i do that it changes the original chart to. Has is this possible
when i did not link the chart? even more curiously, if i save and
close the presentation after the first chart, then reopen it and then
change the pivot table, the first chart does not change. Can i make
the chart not change without closing my presentation?

By switching back to Excel or opening the workbook in Excel, or by
doubleclicking the chart you've pasted into PPT?

Also, what version of Office are you using?  When you copy the chart and
switch to PPT, do you simply paste or do you use Paste Special and
choose a specific Paste As type?

office 2007.

I just do ctrl C and ctrl V to copy and paste the charts.

What happens is when i change the pivot table parameters in Excel to
change the chart in Excel, it changes the chart in powerpoint

Let me amend that.  It doesn't create the same sort of link that Paste Special |
Link will.  Instead, it creates one of these new Chart objects.  They're sorta
linked, in that IF the original data file is available, you can rightclick and
choose Edit Data.  If the original data file isn't available, you can still
change the formatting of the chart but you can't get at the underlying data to
change it.

Oh and I think they call the little square dingus thingie (see below) a Smart
Tag.  And near's I can tell, using it immediately after pasting is the way (and
only way) to get the type of embedded object that used to be the paste default
in earlier versions.

Thanks. I will try doing it that way since the other way is just
pissing me off
