Chart missing when inserted into new page

Excel for some reason cannot display a chart object in it's own page. I
created a workbook at the school computer lab with a chart object in it's own
page-it worked fine. I then copied the file to my laptop and the chart was
missing. I have since tried to create a chart in a new page by inserting a
new sheet from the menu on the sheet tabs. All I get is a grey screen with
all the ribbon buttons disabled. I have also tried inserting a chart into the
default sheet and then moving it to a new sheet with the "Move chart" button
and got the same results.
This is a fresh install of office 2007 and I do have all the updates
installed.

Please help

I seem to remember a setting in 2003 that would do this. It was Tools ->
Options -> View -> Objects -> Hide Placeholders would turn it off

Show all would turn it on. I'm not sure where you'd find this in 2007.

I think I solved it
The real problem was that the print spooler had stopped. As to why, I still
don't know. I had just done a fresh install of office ultimate and
immediately thereafter my print spooler shut down. I had to disable the image
writer printer in the registry to get it to work.
