Changing the name of my SBS Server

paul tomlinson

I need to connect two sites together both running SBS server, both
servers called server!!!

I though about renaming one of them by following MS knowledgebase
article involving adding additional controller etc... this involves
demoting the live server and then adding it back in - if it was
straight windows 2000 with full exchange I would say this looks good

But because it is SBS am i right in assumin that i cannot add another
windows 2000 domain controller running exchange , so i can move
mailboxes off???

Am i in big trouble???

Paul,

I am not SBS2000 expert so please take this posting with a
grain of salt. However, I do not think that you can have
two SBS Servers in the same environment. ASAIK, you can
have one - and only one - SBS Server in the environment.
Period! You can have additional WIN2000 Domain
Controllers but the SBS Server has to hold all of the FSMO
Roles. Naturally, you can have any number of WIN2000
Member Servers. You also can not have any trusts with a
SBS domain.

.....also, you can't just rename an SBS server - you'd need to reinstall.

Opps! Looks like I answered just about everything BUT
his question! Thank you, Lanwench.
