I have a single, SBS NT4 server on my network. I am getting a new server,
new Windows 2003 licenses and Exchange 2003 licenses. I would like to set up
the new server and upgrade the domain without completely getting rid of the
SBS server. Here's my plan (in a nutshell) - if someone sees a problem,
please let me know if I can't do this:
1. Install new server as NT 4 BDC in existing SBS domain.
2. Promote BDC to PDC.
3. Upgrade new PDC to Windows 2003.
4. Install Exchange 2003 into existing Exchange 5.5 Site.
5. Move mailboxes from SBS server to new E2K3 server.
Will this work? I'm hoping to end up with a fully functional mixed-mode
Windows 2003 domain, with a Windows 2003 domain controller and an NT 4
domain controller. Is that what I'd get? Are there any co-existence problems
that I need to be aware of between W2K3 and an SBSNT4 domain controllers?
