Changing the font size of Internet Header and Footer

S

steve steingraeber

I am finding it nearly impossible to change the font size
of the Header and Footer of the Internet pages in
Internet Explorer.

I have found how to "setup" the Header and Footer to my
liking, but not how to "size" the fonts of my desired
Header and Footer.

Please help.

Saw this posting while searching for an explanation of
why the font for my IE6 footers changed a week ago. You
say it cannot be changed; well I have no recollection of
doing anything to change it from Times Roman to Arial
(bold,) but it has changed nonetheless. It's not so much
that I want to change it back; I just want to understand
how it transpired. BTW I am running XP(Home) and the
change occurred for only one of the user accounts on this
multi-user machine. So it is obviously imbedded in some
setting or other.

Hi Mikey,

I believe you are taking that response out of context.
I meant the font size cannot be changed, as that appears to be the
subject.
I did not mean the font cannot be changed from one font face to
another and perhaps should have been more careful in the wording of my
reply.

The "Web page font" can be changed in Tools-Internet Options-Fonts and
that will affect the font face shown in the header & footer.

Ah! I did not stop to think. I had thought that that
setting would chnge the font of the text being printed,
too. Now I realize, from your message, that that is not
at all the case, otherwise Microsoft's KBAs, Bulletins,
etc. would print entirely in Times Roman (IE6's default)
instead of their usual Verdana. It's just the headers
and footers that are affected. Anything else? Many
thanks,

Hi Alan

I'm not sure my reply went through, so here it goes
again. What you said triggered something in my mind,
namely that the tools>internet options>fonts setting
would affect the headers and footers. For some reason I
had taken it into my head that it would also change the
font of the text of any page printed. But then I
realized that, even when the (default) Times Roman is
selected, Microsoft's KBAs, Bulletins, etc. still print
out in Verdana. Thanks for your quick response. At some
point I must have changed that to Arial and forgot about
it. I just reset it to Timew Roman and it worked.

Hi Mikey,

Yes, your reply came through but you are getting out of my field of
comfort, so I was a bit slow in responding.

I am on shaky ground so don't take this as gospel and I will not be
offended if someone jumps.
Changing the font may or may not change the font on a page when
printed, but I assume this depends on whether a specific font is
selected by the web page designer. If pages print in Verdana, then
that is what the page designer specified. If no font is specified, the
changing the font face in Tools-Internet Options-Fonts should have an
effect on more than just the header and footer.
Experiment with a few different pages if nobody helps out.

You cannot change the header and footer font in IE6.
it is obviously imbedded in some setting or other.

Alan means that there is no UI method.
If you are a web programmer you can change this.
Therefore, you may be seeing the influence of a programmer.

Search for my posts on this issue if you want to see some links.
I frequently echo Alan's replies with this exception and recently
Henri Lebouef found another (commercial) site which provides
the same service.

Google Groups search for
insubject:footer author:aldwinckle
would probably be sufficient

Sorry for not being more specific but I'm feeling lazy today.

Good luck

Thanks Robert. I am going to try the site Henri found,
although most aspects of this issue are resolved in my
mind now.
