Changing Start Bar Styles

K

Karl Rose

I cannot change my start bar style to Windows XP because
in the taskbar and start menu properties box on the start
menu tab where there is normally 2 choices between Windows
XP and Windows Classic I only have the Classic Start menu
selection choice. The other option is just not there!!
I'm at a real loss. I guess that something needs changing
somewhere in the registry but I don't know what or where.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Karl,

If your system is in a domain, contact your network admin as this may be due to a policy setting. If not, try this:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoSimpleStartMenu

In the right-pane, set "NoSimpleStartMenu" to 0. Do the same in the following registry key (if the "NoSimpleStartMenu" value exists)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoSimpleStartMenu

Restart Windows.
