Changing Registration Name on OEM purchased S/W

J

Jeff Hulsey

I recently purchased Win XP OEM software for a computer I
was building for buyer and he backed out on the deal, but
I already had his name entered during S/W installation. I
have another buyer for this pc and he wants his name as
the registered user. How do I change names without losing
all the S/W already installed including updates? I have
asked several software experts & developers and they
don't have a clue...Someone help me please..I build
custom made pc's on a part time basis 1 customer at a
time and finance them to people without the means to
purchase a Pc elsewise because of credit problems, low
income, etc...I want to thank you in advance for any help
you can give me with changing the Name software is
registered to in the End User Registration...

Again Thanks,
Jeff Hulsey

If you're speaking of the name or names that appear for the Registered Owner
and Registered Organization in the Windows Property box (right click My
Computer and select Properties) then open Regedit and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion. Click
CurrentVersion in the left hand pane. In the right, double click
RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization and enter the correct
information. Close Regedit.

Hi Jeff,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

In the right pane, double click RegisteredOwner and change the Value data.

Or you can use this automated script:

Change Registered Owner and Organization (Line 7)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Change Computer Name (Line 109)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Change My Computer Name to User Name (Line 131)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

For Office XP:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Installer\Userdata\SID\Products\GUID\InstallProperties

In the left pane change: RegOwner and RegCompany

Once done, naviagate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\UserInfo

And rename it: OldUserInfo

Once done navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data and delete the
Data subkey in the left pane.

As for the Documents and Settings:

Your best bet is to copy the profile and create another user:

Suggestion:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
(Find the profile in question) and alter the ProfileImagePath.

Greetings --

To fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP,
you can use Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

and:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

How this will affect the name displayed in previously installed
applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some
read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read
it only during installation.
