I have a dead laptop, and have been asked to retrieve as much info from it,
before reinstalling windows.

I have manged to get it to boot up into dos, using 3rd party software, but
each time i try to copy the docs and settings folder for the user concerned
it kicks me out. Is there anyway to change the atrributes of the folder from
within dos? as i think ntfs is taking charge here and not letting me access
these files.
