Cannot set permissions on files

P

Phil Wood

Recently I installed windows xp onto my NON NTFS hard drive.

This is so that I can access it in DOS.

I have a secondary hard drive formatted with NTFS. However when I try to
assign permissions to folders on the drive (ie restrict accounts having
access to those files or folders) the security and does not appear when
right mouse button is pressed.

Is this because my primary hard drive is non NTFS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated to allow me to set permissions because
on some files
I do not have permission even though I'm using an administrator account?

Many thanks

You should still be able to set security permissions on files located on the
NTFS drive, but the FAT drive, you would have lost all inherit windows
security ability.

Thank you for replying, however that still doesn't explain why the Security
tab is not available when I write click on the file on the other drive??

Any ideas?

In XP Home you have to boot in safe mode to see the security tab. In XP Pro
you have to disable simple file sharing.
