Hi folks,
I have just changed the mobo of my PC system using XP with SP 1. The old mobo has Vio KT266 chipset
the new has AMD761. memory and CPU are both AMD.
After the change I have the following problem: Booting stops rigth after C-A-D. Using protected boot
with messages, it seems to me that the system crashes right after loading MUP.SYS. The load sequence
of the last four drivers is: NDIS.SYS AMDK7.SYS VIAAGP.SYS MUP.SYS.
I installed a fresh XP from the CD using the AMD mobo into a different directory. This works fine.
In this case the load sequence of the last four drivers is: NDIS.SYS MUP.SYS AMDAGP.SYS. AMDK7.SYS
is not loaded.
Experimenting with the two XP gives the follwing results:
1. mobo with AMD761 AGPSet: Works with new XP installation. Crashes with old XP-setup. Replacing
VIAAGP.SYS with a disguised (aka renamed to VAIAGP.SYS) AMDAGP.SYS and deleting VIAAGP.SYS in all
other plaes gives still the same crash.
2. mobo with VIA KT266: Works fine with the existing XP-setup. Boots with the new XP installation to
a VGA resolution. So no crash.
Any idea how to convince the VIA-XP to boot on an AMD chipset?
Regards
Uwe
