Changing Hard Drive Controller, re-installing windows...

Hi, I'm using Win XP Pro which currently boots from a RAID 1 Set with two
Hard Drives. They are controlled from an on-board highpoint ATA 133
controller.

Now, this controller is conflicting with my SATA Raid controller on the PCI
bus.

I therefore have bought an add-on ATA133 raid controller card, and wish to
switch the hard drives to that new controller.

Now, obviously I need to re-run the install boot CD, but are there any
things I need to know before I proceed with this task? Also, i'm a bit
concerned that when I add the SATA Raid controller too, that it will mess up
the boot priority and try to boot from the sata disks instead of the ATA133.

Will I need to re-run the windows boot cd after I put the sata card and
drives in too?

I think every one is totally confused as to what you are trying to do. Give
us a litle more information and some one will try to help you.
What RAID set up are you running?
What sort of conflict are you having?
Are you running some old IDE drives along with some SATA?
If you have conflicts with your onboard ATA Controller, what do you hope to
gain with an add on?

It's a bit complicated, but basically it's two drives. One ATA133 (on-board)
and one SATA (PCI Card).

BEFORE, they both worked fine. booted from the ATA133 and could also use the
SATA as a data/backup drive.

NOW, with the SATA card plugged in, it ALWAYS tries to boot from this SATA,
and no matter what I set in the Bios, I can't get it to ignore the SATA as a
boot disk, and boot from the ATA133.

SO, I've bought a PCI ATA133 in hope that I can use BOTH PCI Cards and boot
from the ATA133 (PCI) and have access to my SATA data disk.

So, I'm hoping to just un-plug the ATA133 drive(s)(as they are a
RAID-0stripe) from the ON BOARD ATA133 and re-connect it to the ATA133 PCI
CARD.

Then it's a case of running the windows boot disk and having the new ATA133
PCI Card drivers available... which is hopefully where you guys come in.???

What motherboard do you have?
During POST does the motherboard detect the ATA133 disk?

Abit IT7E - Yes, it detects both the on-board disk and the SATA PCI Card
Disk.

It then pops up "Non-System disk" even if i disable the SATA Disk through
the SATA Card POST.

Whichever device the BIOS is trying to boot isn't bootable.

So, basically, i'll ask in a more simple manner...

how easy is it to migrate my xp install over to another harddrive
controller?

Any advice would be appreciated.
