I recently got a computer with Windows XP already
installed on it. I later learned that the copy of XP
installed on the computer is a pirated copy. As soon as
I learned of this, I bought a legal copy of Windows XP
and was wondering if there is a way to change my
product/cd key on it wihtout having to re-install windows?

Please respond to this by e-mailing me at:

Thanks!

You'll have to purchase a new, legitimate, "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "repair install". The pirated version of XP Pro is a volume licensed
version and it will not accept a legitimate retail or OEM Product Key. Therefore,
you cannot simply change the Product Key.

That's not necessarily true.

There are easily available keygens and activation code gens for standard XP home
and pro versions.

Just take a look at any of the warez newsgroups.

But, go to Warez sites at your own risk:
Trojans, pop-ups, viruses, worms, and other malware and system hijackers of
all types live and love the Warez sites.
Ya been warned.

The OP already stated they had a full legal version that they want to
install. Also, the keys for a volume license differ substantially in
structure from those for retail or OEM versions. No need for a keygen or
warez, just a repair install as Carey has described. The procedure described
here may make things quicker:
