I can't change Bold text to Italic text! If I Find Bold and Replace
with Italic, it yields Bold Italic!

To do it, I have to do an intermediate step: I change Bold to Not
Bold, Red [or any other font style that's not used anywhere in the
document] and then change Red to Italic, Not Red [select "Automatic"
in the color drop-down].

In the Find and Replace dialog, you can use Ctrl+I and Ctrl+B to cycle
through Format: Italic/Bold, Format: Not Italic/Not Bold, and No Formatting.
What you need to do is search for Format: Bold and replace with Format: Not
Bold, Italic.

Wow. I suppose there's a reason that's not an option in the drop-down
list inside Replace > Format > Font?

In the Find and Replace dialog, you can use Ctrl+I and Ctrl+B to cycle
through Format: Italic/Bold, Format: Not Italic/Not Bold, and No Formatting.
What  you need to do is search for Format: Bold and replace with Format:Not
Bold, Italic.

Well, what I told you is just a shortcut. I do see Not Bold and Not Italic
listed among the choices in Replace | Format | Font.

But you can't combine two of those choices -- you can't get both "Not
Bold" and "Italic" at the same time, if you don't know about the
keyboard device (not a shortcut, actually, since it doesn't take the
place of anything else!)

Hi Grammatim,

which makes Suzanne's hint still more valuable.

I didn't know either about that.
