Changing display colour of documents on computer

Yesterday a new computer using XP was installed for me at
work. I use a soft green instead of standard white as the
background for all documents, emails etc as it reduces the
glare however the IT person was unable to help me find out
how to change this in XP. Was very simple in 98 and 2000.
Can anyone help me?

Right-click
Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced/Item/Window/Color/Font/Color.
