changing desktop icon problem

I just got a new dell... not much different from my last one, except this
has xp media.
I've got it pretty much loaded with all of my files and settings and one
thing I can't do, that I easily did on my old pc is change desktop icons..
right click, change icon and done.. Well some are working some are not...
Links to web pages for example have the change icon option.. I do it and the
icon does not change... strange when I go to my computer and look at the
desktop they are changed there ?
any ideas ?

I think you have IE 7 ... if yes, then post in IE newsgroup.
