changing default for saving documents

Can the default be changed for saving documents? Instead of .docx, back to
..doc? When I forward a document with a .docx extension, the receivers seem
to always have problems opening it. Is there a solution, other than
manually changing the extension each time?

You can make Word 2007 automatically save all documents in the Word
97-2003 .doc format unless you tell it otherwise. To do this, click on
the Microsoft Office Button, click on Word Options, click on Save, in
the "Save files in this format box" choose "Word 97-2003 format".
