Changing Column Line Size & Colours

No - but you could draw a vertical line whilst in header/footer view and
then close the view and set the columns. A line drawn with the line drawing
tool can be formatted as required and place as a header it will appear on
each page.

Done this and it works fine but is there any way to get it not to appear on
the first page but appear on second onwards?

Set Page setup to have a different first page header and include the line
only in the header of subsequent pages.
