Changing boot order

I'm trying to make my cd-rom the first drive in the boot order. The
BIOS accepts the change and states that the configuration has been
changed. But the machine then reboots windows and not the bootable
cd in the cd-drive. Any suggestions.
Thanks,

Do you see the "push any key to start with CD" at the bootom of your
startup??

That instruction is not there, and the hard drive continues to be the
first in the boot sequence in the BIOS.

Some BIOS when you make changes like that you are required to select "save
and exit" or wording to that effect. if you just exit no changes will be
made.

The last window asked to save changes (yes or no) and exit. I chose
'yes' and the computer rebooted with the results I spoke about.

Now some details were negotiated from the OP, may he will divulge some
more...

What happens if:
You make the cdrom the first boot device in the boot order, save that
change, reboot. Then, enter the bios immediately. Is that change noted?

Is the cdrom an ide device attached to the motherboard's ide connector? to
an add-on ide card? a usb device? a firewire device? a scsi device? (teeth
jarring ain't it?)

A person in a different newsgroup suggested thar I tap the F12 button
at the start of the boot up. This works (I have a Dell). Thank all
of you for your interest in my problem.
