Changing autorun ON or OFF

Martin Racette

Hi,

I would like to know how I can chance the AUTORUN setting, if I can't access the
"Removable Stokage" options in the Computer Management

Everytime that I try to access the Removable Stokage, I get a message telling me
this "This snapin's display
may be inconsistent with Removable Storage Service. If the problem persists
please restart the snapin"

If there is anyway to correct this porblem I would like to know

Or if there is anyway to make the change in the Registry, I would appreciate

Thank you in Advance

Merci a l'Avance

If you have XP Professional, the easiest way to disable autoplay on all
drives is to run the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) and under the
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System folder,
enable the "Turn off Autoplay" item.

If you want more fine-tuned control over this process or if you are
running XP Home, this can of course be accomplished through some
registry diving. I'm not sure what the exact keys you need to mess with
are; instead, I'd recommend downloading Microsoft's Tweak UI powertoy
for Windows XP from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/

(Choose the appropriate Windows version, then find and click "Microsoft
Powertoys for Windows XP", and finally choose TweakUI.exe from the list
that will appear on the right.)

To disable AutoPlay using TweakUI, go to the My Computer -> AutoPlay ->
Types and Drives option panes and deselect drive types and drive letters
as desired.

Or you could just tape down your left shift button, I suppose :)
