Changing ATI drivers

The ATI website advises uninstalling the old Catalyst drivers using Control
Panel before installing the new drivers.
The Dell website recommends using the Catalyst uninstaller before installing
the new drivers.

Which is the best approach ?
Should I do both ? ( If so, what is the step by step sequence )

Any advice appreciated.

I have always used the uninstaller from the control panel, and have never
had any problems when installing the new driver.

I alway just install new without bothering to remove the old. It has caused
to trouble.
