Changing a Filetype

I made alot of video clips from my Sony camera but when I put the disk into
the computer to put the video onto Windows Movie Maker, it reads "The
filetype is not supported." How can I change the file so it will work?

Video section.... it'll be a conversion from whatever type you have to
another....
