Hi Ramesh I done the command in the start run box, logged off then
back
on, saw no results. I downloaded process monitor and made a logfile I
think,
this is getting pretty much past my talent level. Not sure what I was to
do
with the program. I installed it, started it, than I went to start button
clicked on search and then X'ed out out of it, than created a log file. I
Zipped it, and not sure how to get it to you.

Larry,

Try running:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Logoff/Login back. If that does not help, send me a Process Monitor log
(zipped)

Look at the "Attachments" section of the link that I posted earlier.
It
has
a file named "restore_xp_srch.reg". See if downloading and applying
the
REG
file fixes it.

Hey Ramesh I must be a little dense, because I don't understand
your
last
post. You meant the REG fix in the linked article? I don't see
anything
that
says REG Fix in the article. I tried both one and two methods. Is
there
somewhere else on that page to look for REG fix.

:

Hi Larry,

I meant the REG fix in the linked article. The DLL unregistration
wouldn't
apply as you don't have WDS installed anymore.

I went to the link you sent me to, and downloaded
restore_xp_srch.reg
to
my
desktop clicked on the icon, it said installed sucessfully. I
went
to
method
number 2 I copied and pastesed the regsvr32 /u
"%programfiles%\Windows
Desktop Search\wdsShell.dll" in the run command and recieved this
error
message. LoadLibrary C:\programfile\windows desktop
search\wdsShell.dll
Failed- The specified module could not be found. ????? And the
other
thing
you wanted to put in the run command
regsvr32 %windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll this was successful
also.
My search screen has not changed. I also rebooted after these
fixex
with
no
results.
My pc also does not want to remember logons and password , I
don't
know
if
the two are connected. When I type in a logon and password and
click
ok
windows asks it I want to save it, I chose yes, but it does not
remember.

Hi Ramesh I done the Reg. reinstall steps in safe mode with no change. I
then disabled Tea-Timer and tried again, same results, no change.
I also have an issue with windows not remembering Logons and passwords,
Could the two be connected.
The Two Reg. Installs reported install succeded and the srchasst.inf did ask
for a new file that has not asked for before. It asked for Rover which I am
quessing is the little dog assistent.
I appreceate all your help on this pain in the @#$ Larry

Larry,

I can see TeaTimer and other tools running in the background. One of them
could be preventing the registry "write" operations. Repeat the Search
Companion reinstallation steps via Safe mode.

Running out of ideas, Larry. Guess I can crack this if I work on the PC
remotely.

Also, the P'Monitor log does not contain traces for file search (srchui).
Perhaps the timing of the capture was incorrect?
