How to change the sound file associated with new e-mail notification in
Outlook 2002? Where is the default location of the sound file?

Try going to your Control Panel and locating Sounds and Audio Devices.
Choose the Sounds tab. Here, scroll through the list until you find 'New
Mail Notification'. Select it, and browse to the sound file you wish to play
when new mail arrives.

I'm using Outlook 2003 within Office XP pro. I have several hotmail accounts
and a Yahoo Pop3 accont setup within Outlook that I send and receive email
with these accounts inside Outlook 2003. I followed the directions below for
associating a sound with new incoming email for Outlook 2002 which is
identical to 2003. In selecting the sound, I tested it first to verify it
worked. When I was done, I clicked apply. Then reopened Outlook 2003,
however when new mail has arrived, no sound is being played. Why?

BTW, other sounds associated with other Windows actions (i.e. booting up and
logging off) work just fine, it is with Outlook 2003 that I am having a
problem.

Hope you or someone else can assist. This is very frustrating and am
missing critical email that arrives when I don't have Outlook in the
foreground. I'm aware of visual notifications, but for personal reasons,
prefer sound notifications.

Update to last post below:

Problem has now been resolved..... what did so was following the suggestions
of ZILLA under the thread title "email sound notifications" that I have
included below. I haven't tested it for all my accounts, but it works for my
pop3 yahoo account that I pay an annual fee to have in outlook and is the
most important account I have in Outlook. Thanks Zilla, I responded to the
advice as being helpful.

In Outlook>Tools>Options>Preferences tab>E-mail Options button>Advanced
E-mail Options button>Under "When new items arrive..."
I believe these settings only apply to your default/primary Inbox.
