Hi there,

Since I installed a program called Textpad, it shows up in the menu when
right-clicking on any file. It's not in the "Open with..." section -- just
shows up right under "Open" or very close to it. Is there a way I can change
that to say "Notepad" and then use notepad to open a file to see the source
or whatever I'm doing? I've searched the registry, but it looks at first
glance like an overwhelming job. Any ideas?

Thanks,
PlainDave

Why not just add a shortcut to NotePad in your Send To folder?

Thanks, Alan. I did that, and it works great. But, I forgot to mention
in my original post that I want "Notepad" to show up in the "first"
right-click menu (as soon as I right-click on a file). Is there a way
to add Notepad to that menu?

Thanks,
PlainDave

I have no idea why you would want it as you have TextPad but if you
only want it on text files, then add an action in File Types.
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types.
Find 'Text Document'. Press Advanced and add a new action using
Notepad.exe and call it something like "Open with Notepad".

FWIW, I have used TextPad for many years and have rarely found a need
to open files with the old Notepad.

Thanks for the advice. I like to use Notepad (selectively) to
occasionally open a binary file because it opens quicker than TextPad
-- smaller prog, smaller memory "footprint." I like the advice you
gave, however. And... I *am* starting to use TextPad more and more --
even since my original post.

Blessings,

Alan,

where is this folder? I also want to create a default to open Microsoft
Image Writer files that is under printers etc.

When I click on these files, it doesn't open but if I open the Microsoft
Image Writer from Printers then I can open the file just fine.

Thanks.

Mine is C:\Documents and Settings\Alan Edwards\SendTo

An easy way to get to the SendTo folder is to use Start-Run-Sendto
