Change Shutdown Options?

Dave Parker

Is there a way to change the default option when you click shutdown? Mine
always defaults to "Sleep", and this is pretty useless since I've disabled
hibernation. XP as I recall would default to whatever you picked last...

thanks,
Dave

I have S3 (STR) enabled in my BIOS, removed the hibernation file, and pc
goes into hybrid sleep no problem :)

Not even "hybrid sleep"?

Hybrid sleep will disappear -- But all Hybrid sleep does is prepares the
harddrive for hibernation, while putting the system into sleep mode.

Once in sleep mode, the system can simply power off and recover as
though it were hibernated. This is really a "hibernate-lite"

Excuse my obtuseness, but does this mean that "hybrid sleep" really does
nothing worthwhile unless it is used as a prelude to full hibernation?

As I understand it, that's part of it -- It helps in two basic cases:

1) Your computer is asleep, and wants to hibernate instead.

2) Your computer is asleep, and suffers a power failure, user thinks
it's off and unplugs it, or some other unexpected-to-your-OS event.
