Change RAID scheme

I have two drives mirrored and in order to double my disk space I'll add a
third drive and change from RAID 1 to RAID 5. (All three drives are
identical.)

What is the most risk-free approach to doing this? I am thinking of doing a
complete tape backup (maybe twice), break the RAID array, create the new
raid array, do a minimal reinstall of Win2K Server, and then restore from
tape. Is this a good approach?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hy David
You have to do the backup! Good guess!

I assume you are writing about controllerbased RAID. The min. system also
makes sense, but there are some disaster recovery Backuptools around, which
can restore systems back from tape. (Veritas.., maybe just ghost!). If you
have access to a tool like that, you can save time and sweat!
