Change product key

I have a pirated version of windows XP on my laptop. I
just purchase Windows XP. Do I have to reinstall XP to
update the product key or can I just replace the product
key? If I have to reinstall XP will I have to reinstall
all my applications?

Unless you bought the corporate edition, you will likely have to reinstall..
everything.

Do an inplace upgrade, it should allow you to change the key.

You will need the retail pro version to change the key without formatting.
