Change or remove buttons missing from Add/Remove

My change or remove buttons are missing from all but two of my programs
listed. Also most of the icons have changed to the genric icon.
Went to the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Uninstall

and it only shows two programs that have been installed in the last two days.
How can I get the programs back in that location.

Someone told me to reinstall programs. There are over 50. Not realistic!
Where does the uninstall get its info. I now its is still in the computer.
Somebody must have a fix for this.
Can anybody help?

Look at #4 here:

Looks like the branch had been deleted completely by a third-party software.
How about a System Restore rollback?

If you can access the System Volume Information folder, you can find the
most current registry files saved that contain the Uninstall information.
You can then load the Software hive into the current registry, export the
Uninstall key from that bacckup and them unload the hive. The merge the
exported hive registry file into you current registry.

You can first check to see if you have a backup in the
C:\Windows\System32\Config folder or C:\Windows\System32\Repair folder.
Look for a Software file with a recent date, load that into the current
registry, export the Uninstall key, unload the hive and then imort the
Uninstall reg file into the current registry.

REMEMBER to modify the Uninstall registry file to reflect the true current
Software path in the registry MINUS the loaded Hive unique key name.

If System Restore does not work, then the only way to restore the
"Uninstall" branch is using NewScience's method of loading the SOFTWARE hive
from one of the System Restore points (inside the System Restore store, the
System Volume Information folder)

In future, use ERUNT (freeware) tool to backup the registry on a daily
basis.

When I go to the system volume information folder it says that it is empty
and access is denied. Why would it be empty?

In normal mode the sysstem Vol folder is empty and access is denied. When I
go to safe mode I was able to change for view hidden system folders, however
when I look for the system Vol folder it is not there. What is up with that.
Also when I use safe mode the resolution is so low it makes the windows so
large I can't make changes most of the time.

Get into the System Volume Information folder located in the drive where the
Windows is installed. Then, open a sub-folder that was not created at the
current time. You may have to click Details on the View menu to see when
these folders were created. There may be one or more folders starting with
"RPx under this folder. These are restore points.

Open one of these folders to locate a Snapshot subfolder. The following path
is an example of a folder path to the Snapshot folder:
C:\System Volume
Information\_restore{D86480E3-73EF-47BC-A0EB-A81BE6EE3ED8}\RP1\Snapshot

From the Snapshot folder, copy the following file to the Desktop

_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE

Undo the changes to Permissions made as per article KB309531 [Titled: How to
gain access to the System Volume Information folder]

Close all the folder windows you've opned.

Load the hive
--------------

Rename the file "_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE" to "Software"
Open Regedit.exe and select the HKEY_USERS branch
From the File menu, click the "Load Hive" option to load the file "Software"
(present in your Desktop)
Give a name for the loaded hive. (Name it as "MyBackup")

Navigate to the following branch

HKEY_USERS\MyBackup\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Export the branch to a REG file.

Close Regedit.exe

----------
Reference: More information on loading a hive into the registry:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...elp/967e371b-40f8-4562-ac7c-91e8f251d65b.mspx
----------

After exporting the branch to a REG file, post back. There are few more
steps to go.

OK, I have done what you said, however, the final step it looks like I
exported it to the desktop and it ask me for a name. So I named it. Was

Edit the .REG file using Notepad, and replace every instances of the
following line:

HKEY_USERS\MyBackup\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

with the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Save the file. Right-click and choose "Merge"

I tried to post reg file but it said post is too long. The file Mybackup.reg
has all the entries that I need and the changes you had me make. But when I
merge nothing happens to the REG. At least that I can see. The reg location
unstall is still the same.
