Change number or rings for outgoing fax?

I'm dumbfounded trying to find how to change the number of times Fax will
ring before canceling to try again. I have a fax machine I'm trying to send
to that picks up on 15 rings, but Fax will only allow 10 rings before it
tries again.

I've dug everywhere. Any ideas for such a simple change?

It is set up under Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel. Look
for Change Default Preferences. The setting is in minutes and not
number of rings. This applies to all calls sent through the modem,
including voice, data or faxes.

Thanks.

I did find and change that when I first ran into the issue, but even
changing from the default of 60 seconds to 120 seconds didn't do it. I can
count the rings and the other fax machine is picking up in 15 rings and I'm
not sure if that even takes 60 seconds. I'll count again, but it seems as
though the modem is giving up at 10 rings.

I'm setting it now to 240 and will try again just in case. But also, I've
power cycled the PC since yesterday so maybe it needed that to actually
complete the change?

Thanks,
Jim

Well setting it to 240 seconds didn't do anything. It's stopping the send
at about 1 min 10 seconds which is what appears to be 10 rings.

Any other way to force it to wait 15 rings, or a longer period of time when
sending?

Thanks,
Jim

The inf setting for the modem might be sending the default settings
when the modem is initialized. You might have to find the modem
string which sets the call completion time and enter it in the Extra
Settings box. I believe that this string is sent last.

You might also be able to "trick" your modem into waiting longer by adding a
series of commas to the end of the phone number it dials. Each comma adds a
2-3 second pause to the modem's dial function, enough of them should keep
the modem in dial mode long enough for a number of those 15 rings to happen
before the modem goes into listen mode.

One thing I forgot to mention is that a sending fax modem broadcast
the CNG tones while the phone is still ringing. This continues for
forty-five seconds. Fifteen rings would take longer than the CNG
tones are being sent and no fax will be sent when the distant
machine answers.

I've got a similar(?) problem. The telephone / fax machine I'm callin
has a long answerphone announcement after it answers. My XP fax cal
gives up and tells me 'the line is busy'.

I can't even find the Default Preferences for fax that were mentione
earlier.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
