Hi,

We have created a segment in our corporate network for all the servers. So I
need to change the ip address of my domain controller to new ip address
which is belong to our server farm subnet. I have a DNS and WINS installed
on the domain controller. Please advise as I'm not sure what steps should I
take. Thanks

For the IP, change the IP. If this server is a GC, check in DNS under the
_msdcs.gc zone and delete the old IP for this GC.
Delete the PTR record in your reverse zone.

Then in a cmd prompt:

ipconfig /registerdns
net start netlogon
net stop netlogon

Then confirm under your zone that these all changed to the new address:
If GC, check the zone I mentioned above.
Check the (same as parent) A record IP to make sure that changed.
Check the A record for the host name as well.

For WINS, the easiest way I've found is to disable the NIC and re-enable it.
It should register its new address in WINS. Check WINS to confirm.

You can also just restart the system, but still double check everything.

So it is a GC? Ok, try this...

Under your domain.com zone (or whatever your zone is called) you will see:
_msdcs
_sites
_tcp
_udp

Double click the _msdcs folder. Under it you will see a folder like this:
_gc

Double click that. To the right you will see an IP address. Check that.

Thanks Ace,

It works but I think I still miss something here. After changing IP, I try
to create a 2nd domain controller but failed. I have sync the time between
the server that I want to add as a 2nd DC with 1st DC but failed. I attached
the error msg here and maybe you have an idea on what to looking for. Thanks
