Change icon size in left pane of Explorer

Hello everybody,
in Control Panel/Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/General
I have change the DPI settings to reflect the actual DPI
of my display. After doing that a icons here and there
were increased in size and not even close to the
standard 16/32/42(?) icon sizes and thus looked ugly.
I managed to resize most of them to their native size
again using the settings under Control Panel/Display Properties/
Appearance/Advanced

but .... I never managed to resize the size of the icons
appearing in the left pane of the Explorer. On the right
hand side the icons are in the right size (which is 16 points
in my case) but the ones on the left are streched and
I have tried all the possible things I can change in
Control Panel/Display Properties/Appearance/Advanced
but the icons on the left never seem to change in size.

Can anyone help me there?

Right click the Start Button and select Properties/Customize Button. Select
the Small Icons option.
OK/Apply/OK.

In my case Small Icons were already selected. I changed it to larger
and
back again but the only icons affected are the ones in the Start Menu.
The icons I want to change the size of are the ones in the left pane
of explorer.exe. Those are unnaffected by the setting you suggested.
