Change Default Outlook Attachment Opening Program

Hi,
i was wondering how to select the program you would like to use in outlook
to open attachments. I am having trouble oppening .tif with a user but when i
save it to desktop i can open in picture manager or picture and fax viewer.
whenever the user tries to open directly from the email though it will not
allow them. Is there a way to tell outlook to use a certain program when
opening emails? Can anyone recommend another startagy for this problem?

Oulook 2002 running on XP
Thank you in advance for any help with this.

are they getting an error when they try or does it open using a different
program?

if an error, we need to know the error so we can try to solve it.

if the program is wrong, find a file with the same extension on your
computer, right click on it and choose open with... choose program - select
the preferred application and check the box to always use that one.

Thank You for your response Diane.

It isn't an error, just an unrecognizable format. i saved the attachment to
the desktop, right clicked and selected open, selected picture and fax viewer
and saved it. I then sent a new .tif file to the user but they still cannot
open it.

What you have selected to open the file has no bearing on whether or not the
recipient's selected something appropriate with which to open it on their
machine. They need to select an appropriate viewer on their own PC.

Thanks for the response Brian,

Okay, i guess that's part of my question then. Which program would you
reccomend to open .tif files with? Where would i go to set that program as
my default .tif opening program. She is working in XP and has the normal
Windows software which would come with it.

Thanks

The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Microsoft Office Picture Manager would
be good choices, I would think.

If you start the Picture Manager, it should ask you what file types you want
to associate with it. Otherwise, save the TIFF to the hard drive,
right-click it, choose "Open with" and specify the program you want,
checking the "Always use the selected program" box.
