Hello,

I would like to change the default setting of "Standby" to "Turn Off
Computer" when shutting down XP Home (I have my pointer set to automatically
go to default options). Can someone give me some direction on this?
Thanks in advance.

right click the desktop and choose 'properties' at the
bottom of the context menu (or from the control panel
choose 'display').
Open the 'screensaver' tab and the lower portion of the new
window has power settings.

But then what?

I've gone to "Power Settings" and (think I've) played with all of them (including looking at Advanced Settings), but Standby persistently stays the default on the Turn Off Windows bar. What do you do once you get into Power Settings?

But then what, continued

Meanwhile, I came upon a simple Registry hack that grays-out the Standby button, forcing Shut Down to become the default. That works fine for my desktop, since I can't contemplate ever needing to put it into standby.
