Julie

I'm not to computer savvy, but I just got a new computer with vista
operating system on it. I had outlook 6 on the old one,(still operating).
Now this new one has windows mail. Can anyone tell me how to transfer my old
address book and saved messages to my new one? I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

I still need help. I followed the thru on the link that David had sent me
but on the old computer when I clicked on Show Hidden Files and Folders, I
can't find Outlook Express. I must be overlooking something.

Use Windows Explorer to locate the folder. It's a sub-folder of C:\Documents and
Settings. Here's the instructions restated:

Locate the folder named Outlook Express.
In Windows XP, this folder is located here by default: C:\Documents and
Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{your Windows
user identity number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

Okay, David or anyone else out there, if you are still with me, I found
outlook express, but know need to copy the files. I know the name of the
computer I was using, but how much info do I put in there. Also, when it
says click the Start button, you can go to the search ( the one that has the
dog and what you want to search for, such as files, music , documents or
whatever) but know box comes up to type in. We've had several computers over
the last 12 years. You wouldn't think this would be so hard.
Please continue to help.

Thanks, Julie

If you're not comfortable using Windows Explorer, copy & paste, drag & drop, or
burning data to a rewritable CD, you should seek help from a family member or
friend.

You cannot do the transfer from the results of a search. If both computers are
not connected to the same network, you will have to copy files using some sort
of removable media that can be read by both computers. A simple USB drive would
be an excellent choice in lieu of burning to a disc. You can pick one up at a
local retailer for about $20 to $50, based on capacity.

Go back and review the procedure that I provided the link to. It also contains
links to other "how-to" procedures that you'll need, such as the one to transfer
the contact info (address book).

I think I'm just making it harder than it is. I can burn the data on a CD
from the old computer, otherwise I'll think about this USB drive. Thanks for
all your patience.
