change 32 bit to 64 bit

If I install the 32 bit Vista RC1, can I do an upgrade to the 64bit version
when it is released, or would I have to do a clean install of the 64 bit
version

Clean install only. You cannot upgrade from a 32 bit operating system to a
64 bit one.

You'll still need to do a clean install of the 64-bit version -- its setup
program will not run under a 32-bit OS.

I'm not techie enough to know if there was any way around this if Microsoft
had wanted to make the path to 64-bit less painful. In any event, so far at
least, they didn't.
