Challening Problem...EXPERT needed!

I have a really annoying problem...I get the following error message
when I try to move "any" file more then once on one of my partitions.
It doesn't matter if I use Windows explorer or another file management
utility.

"Error Moving File or Folder"- Can not move..(name of file). Access is
denied
Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

I'm using a brand new HP laptop with came with XP professional
preinstalled. The 1st thing I did was use Partition Magic to create
several partitions:

C: Primary-OS only
Extended:
D: Logical- Assortment of installed Applications
E: Logical- Documents
F: Logical- Media files

Partition D is the problem child. My computer is not hooked-up to a
network and I haven't touched any file sharing/access settings. As far
as I can tell my entire hard-drive is set-up for unrestricted access. I
also log in as the administrator.

Each partition is NTFS. I'm thinking of switching D to FAT32 and
making it a primary partition to see if the problem goes away.

Any thoughts on settings or other fixes I might try?

Thanks,
Westcoaster

If you don't get a solution, there is a small free utility that should move
those locked in files.

Mmm, how do you propose to change the drive from NTFS to FAT? It's
unlikely to help, is my guess. Have a look at what the permisses are
before and after each stage of the move. Under "Advanced" in the
permissions dialog you can see the 'effective' permissions.

How did you get the "installed applications" onto the D: drive, or did
you install them there directly?

Cheers,

Cliff

Thanks for the troubleshooting help Cliff!

I'll answer your questions as presented...

Partition Magic allows you to covert between NTFS and FAT. I've never
done this but it looks simple.

Ok, my file & folder permissions are all fine now but the problem still
exists.

I installed the apps directly to the D drive. I don't think the
problem is associated with the way I installed anything for the
following reason. If I right click in the D drive and create an empty
text document, move it to a different folder, try to open it, I get
"access denied".

The problem is some how associated the permissions but as I've
indicated I have full access as the administrator.

Any more thoughts?
