Hi,

Anyone knows how to convert a transcend CF flash from removable to fixed in
the computer management? Thanks

Mervyn,

You mean using XP Disk Management snap-in? You cannot do that there.
You will have to contact the CF manufacturer to get an utitlity from them that will allow you to make the card as fixed.

Does it means that i cannot deploy any images if the disk is removable?

Mervyn,

I did not say that.

You can but there are some limitations on your system design. Obviously, you won't be able to create more than one partition on the
card and etc.

Also, having the card marked as fixed would help you with some XP specific features that work stable (and with some hardware - only)
on fixed media. Like system boot, hibernation file on system partition, etc.

Mervyn,

Also in SP2 doc you have description how to configure EWF trough registry only so it can work on removable medium.

Mervyn,
I currently buy production CF flash from Transcend that is set to
Non-removable.
I buy directly in large volumes from Transcend
I use the EWF in the traditional mode (not what Slobodan is talking about)
for some special reasons.
I also prefer the non-removable setting so that I can format my second drive
to NTFS.
They have part #'s for this now (128MB, 256MB and 512MB cards) and I get
mine is a non-retail packaging.

Here is my contact info for who I deal with.
Please mention my name

BTW, I have previously tested UNIGEN and WINSTATION CF cards set to
non-removable but prefer the Transcends for now.

Also, for using the EWF in the traditional mode, I suggest you buy the book
"Windows XP embedded Advanced" from Amazon.com
