certificates & encrypting

I get the error message: "Microsoft Outlook could not
sign or encrypt your this message because you have no
certificates which can be used to send from th e-mail
address..."
What does this mean & how do I get the certificates
settings set correctly?

To sign an email you need to apply for and obtain a
digital certificate. These can be obtained from VerisSign
or Thawte.

Thawte has a free personal email certificate.

To encrypt an email you must have the recipient's public
key, this is obtained by recieving a "signed" email from
that person. Also when *you* send a signed email you are
giving them your public key so they can encrypt email to
you.
