Outlook 2003 encryption

Marika

I am learning about MS Outlook digital certificates and encryption.
I have obtained a digital certificate from Thawte.
I can send and receive digital certificates. I want to use encryption,
so I installed my digital certificate (that is I added it to the
contacts, under my name)
I also have another digital certifica from a friend, which I place
under contacts under his name.

I can send an encrypted message to myself.
However when I try to send an encrypted message to him I get the
following error message: Microsoft office has problems encrypting this
message, because the following recipients had missing or invalid
certificates, or conflicting or unsupported encryption capabilities.

When I go option > security settings > (tick) encrypt message content
and attachment

After this do I need to go change settings > encryption certificate
(choose) > and then select the person's (who the message is going to)
certificate _public key???

OR does Outlook automatically detect who the email is going to and
select the certificate accordingly?

If I do have to select, I have a problem, because only my certificates
are listed, and there is no option to add another certificate. Even
though in the contacts my friend does have his certificate.

can anyone help?

Thank you,
Marika

In order to send/receive encrypted messages, you must first exchange public
keys. In other words, you must first exchange a piece of signed e-mail on
both sides. So.....try this.....send a piece of signed mail to the
recipient instructing them to reply back with their digital signature also.
Once you have their digital sig, you can then reply with the message
encryption enabled.

Hope that helps!!

Thank you!
