CE vs Embedded XP

Hi,

New to the MSDN Embedded groups...

I am trying to decide between CE and Embedded XP for a project I am on.
I've read through much of the MSDN Embedded website and I see references to
the 500 components CE has versus the 12000 components Embedded XP has, but
what I cannot find is the specifics of the 500 components CE has versus.

I'd like to review that list for technologies that I require for this
project, so I can make a decision on whether or not to use CE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
-Vin

Hi Vin,

Your best bet would be to contact a Systems integrator (no shameless plug
intended) we can help you on the road to determine which OS best fits your
needs.

if you like contact me OL, and I can assist.

There are several weighing factors in choosing your OS... processor type,
Driver base, application development environment, ETC...

Happy to help.

Microsoft was giving away a CD at the Embedded Systems conference that takes
you through the process of deciding which is most appropriate for your
system. If you post some functional requirements of your intended device
lot's of people here can offer recommendations.

Vin,

- XP Embedded won't work on non x86 processors, basically you should not
even consider it on processors prior to Pentium III class of processor.
- Number of components if rather irrelevant for deciding what OS you will
need.

Do you have already made application that work on XP Pro? If you have that
might be considerable reason why you should use XPe.

Hi Slobodan,

No, we don't have an application at all for this project. We still are
laying out our communications controller and selecting which embedded SBC to
use. At the very early stages....

Thanks,
-Vin
