I have tried and tried but...

My machine has XP Pro SP2 and all the updates that Microsoft have to
offer. If I create a data CD-R either by using windows explorer or by
using Media Player, the system goes through all the motions, writes to
the disc and spits it out. (My media player was V9, is now V10)

Visual examination of the disc shows that data has indeed been written
but when I put the disc back in, it appears to be blank - explorer says
so. Another machine also says it is blank. However, not so blank that
the machines say they cannot write to them.

On the same computer, I can write successfully to a disc of the same
make, using MusicMatch 9.0 with excellent results readable in anything.

This is particularly annoying as I wanted to create MP3 discs for my new
car CD player - Christmas present and you know what it is like when your
Christmas toys don't work right.

I could use Musicmatch but that would still leave me unable to create
backups etc.

Check the Problem section at Alex Nichol's site for a possible fix

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Interesting link - lots of good
stuff.

Turns out that I needed to flash the actual CD drive (CyberDrive).
Didn't know you could even do that!

This will also fix a problem at work that was upsetting me in the last
hour before we stopped for Christmas.

Happy new year
