CD's are NOT recognized by my computer

Everytime I insert a music CD, my computer will not open windows media player
or itunes. When I try to play the CD after opening Windows Media Player
manually, it does not recognize that a CD is in the CD drive. Picture CD's
are not being recognized either. I have never encountered this problem with
my computer before. What can I do to get my picture CD's to open along with
my music CD's?
