CDrw unrecognized

I did everything to try and fix the problem except throw
out the ketchen sink. My CDrw checks out fine when
diagnosing the driver. I've even went after the the
firmware folks. I've removed the driver and reinstalled.
I've uninstalled the CDrw and re installed. The Icon to
the Drive never changes when a CD is incerted. The folder
to the drive reads empty all the time. The pop up box
continues to tell me to put in a CD ... DUH. The info
that is ready to be burned to CD is recognized and the
Icon show in the drive's folder but I still read please
insert CD ... Double Duh. The drive whizzes a few rounds
and dies. (eh?) its an ACER CDrw. Help.

Start be ascertaining that there is no problem with the BIOS,
the cabling or the CD drive. Do this by booting the machine
with a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com. Can you
now access your CD files?
