Dan

I've been running this system unchanged more or less for over a year.
Last week, I noticed that the CDROM and CDRW are not reading any
disks. Error message is Disk in Drive X not formatted. Do you want to
format now? Both drives work from DOS prompt. Audio CD does play
although trying to pull up track list still gives me same error even
though it is playing. Error logs show similar error dating back to
10/5/04. I uninstalled all Windows hotfixes dating back to August; no
help. I uninstalled both drives in Safe Mode, shut down, unplugged,
rebooted, shut down and let reinstall;no help. Anyone have any
suggestions on what to try next? p.s. I was able to burn a CD
although I could not read it to verify the burn.

Specs
650Mhz/256mb RAM/Sony 36X CDROM/ Samsung 48XRead/8XWrite
Mostly homebuilt system
Running Win2K Pro - All Windows Upates are installed.
Both drives worked fine up until this event.

Check Event Viewer and Device Manager for errors and or non-starting
devices.

Like I said the Errors started on 10/5...that was via the Event
Viewer. Everything appears to be installed correctly on the Device
Manager. No warnings or errors.

Not sure if I should mention but both drives are slaves on their
respective IDE channel. The HD's that are masters work fine. It's just
the CDROM and CDRW that aren't working. I think it is definitely a
Windows problem.
